  • Dr. McCloskey works as a functional medicine consultant in conjunction with your current health care team and is not considered a replacement for your primary care physician. He requires all new patients to have a primary care physician to cover emergencies and routine care and screening.

Dr. McCloskey is a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) with additional post-doctoral education in clinical neuroscience and functional medicine. He received his doctorate from Parker university in Dallas, Texas. He does not prescribe pharmaceutical drugs and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions, instead focusing on promoting health and optimal function. His services are not meant to replace those of a medical doctor and instead work in conjunction with them as part of an allied healthcare team.

  • No. He does not prescribe or make recommendations about prescription medications or controlled substances. Your prescribing medical doctor will manage all medications. Dr. McCloskey uses natural, noninvasive methods such as movement therapy, nutritional therapy, herbs, supplements, stress management technologies and lifestyle changes to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal function and health.

  • We are currently a cash-pay only clinic. Insurance may cover some testing but not at all. All of our programs in general are considered above the standard of care and therefor elective as far as third party payment is concerned. We do everything we can to offer a range of services to make our care available to everyone!

Why We Do Not Accept Insurance

Some of our patients have asked us why we do not bill insurance directly. While we fully understand the financial challenge this presents to some patients we have chosen not to bill insurance directly for the following reasons:

When clinics bill insurance companies directly, the doctors are required to become participating providers. The doctors must sign a contract that allows the insurance company to determine which services they will and will not provide, and how much they can charge for those services. In general, insurance companies are not focused on any preventative or wellness services. They are heavily invested in the conventional model of health care that too often relies on drugs and surgery. We are committed to the functional medicine model that addresses the underlying causes of your symptoms with specific nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.

A participating provider must agree to accept the fees the insurance company establishes, regardless of whether the fees are reasonable or applicable to that practice. In general, these established fees cover the actual cost of the briefest (and we believe the lowest quality) care. Doctors who are participating providers are required to accept discounted fees for their services. Therefore, the clinic must write off the difference, often as much as fifty percent or more of the doctorʼs fee for service. Our office cost to provide high quality care has increased dramatically over time, making this a very difficult situation. You may be aware but in todayʼs health care environment, the actual cost for doctors to provide services continues to rise, while the percentage of reasonable fees that insurance payments cover is declining.

Most doctors and clinics cope with the requirements of being participating providers by keeping their office visits very brief, so that they can see many patients within a given timeframe. When the clinic becomes unprofitable, it will need support from another institution. Most primary care medical clinics are not self-sustaining financially, and have had to merge with hospitals whose expensive high-tech surgical and diagnostic procedures are priced to keep the clinics afloat.

Ironically, some of our patients complain about their extremely brief office visits in other medical practices, while at the same time expressing frustration that we do not accept insurance. Unfortunately, we have found that we cannot stay in the insurance networks and provide the time-intensive, well-researched, expert care that you will get at Arete Health.

  • Yes, of course! All of our health coaching services are virtually capable. For years we have been consulting with people from around the world via video teleconference. For patients looking for comprehensive care, an initial in-person physical examination is required, however all follow-up appointments can be scheduled via video-teleconference at your convenience. All appointments will be scheduled in Eastern Standard Time.

PROFESSIONAL

Driven by relentless intellectualism and a desire to promote optimal health and performance, Dr. McCloskey’s mission is to serve his clients and patients with a level of depth and specificity rarely seen in healthcare using cutting-edge research, nutrition, chiropractic, neuroscience, and sports performance/rehabilitation modalities. Jason’s experience with the human form is extensive, having secured a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a focus in Psychology and Biochemistry from Georgia College & State University, post-graduate certifications as a Certified Personal Trainer from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2012. While at Georgia College he was accepted into the two-year Human Performance cohort under the tutelage of Dr. Mike Martino, the USA National Team Swimming Coach from 1990 to 2000 and a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Advisory Coaching Staffs in Barcelona and Atlanta. Before graduating, he spent his senior apprenticeship under Dustin Wolf, Strength and Conditioning coach for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream and Performance Director of Performance Training, Inc in Suwanee, Georgia, and was recently honored as the Georgia High School Strength Coach of the Year at Wesleyan High School by the National High School Strength Coaches Association.

Jason began Chiropractic school at Life University (Atlanta, GA) where he was also enrolled in their Sports Health Science graduate program for sports injury management under Dr. Jeffrey Rupp, Fellow and President of the Southeastern Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). While at Life University, he was introduced to Chiropractic Neurology and began as a student intern during Dr. Ted Carrick’s internationally renowned patient rounds as he saw patients from all over the world seeking nonsurgical, natural, therapeutic modalities. In 2015, Jason transferred to Parker University in Dallas, Texas to pursue an internship at Carrick Brain Centers throughout school where he was the Student President of the Neurology Organization for two years and graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 2017. Throughout his time in Dallas he was able to spend time learning under one of his most influential and significant mentors, Dr. Brandon Brock, a clinical genius who masterfully integrated both allopathic and holistic modalities with unbelievable patient outcomes on a regular basis. Immediately following graduating school, he completed his Childhood Developmental Learning Disabilities and Behavioral Disorders coursework with Dr. Robert Melillo (international best-selling author of “Autism” and “Disconnected Kids”), and became a Fellow of the International Board of Functional Neurology as a specialist in Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders in the summer of 2018. He is also currently pursuing a diplomate with the American Chiropractic Neurology Board.

PERSONAL

Jason grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia, 30 minutes south of downtown Atlanta. He played club soccer for Atlanta FC, a R3PL (southeast) travel team year-round and was acknowledged with Georgia's State Player of the Year award in 2007 as a goalkeeper on his state championship soccer team and maintains his passion for all sports, especially European soccer and College football. His other passions include cooking, reading at local coffee shops, creating music, traveling, and his German Shepherd, Munich.

His interest in complex medical cases begin when his mother developed a severely debilitating chronic pain disorder, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in 2003. At the time CRPS was an enigma to most doctors and treatment seemed to stall for close to a decade. While at Life University he discovered the clinic on campus operated by Dr. Ted Carrick, the father of Chiropractic Neurology (a clinical neuroscience physicians are using in lieu of medications or surgeries focusing on receptor-based stimulation as a specific treatment modality for patients with complex neurological cases). After being treatment-resistant for a decade, a week of rehabilitation with Dr. Carrick proved to significantly decrease her pain, enabling her to reintroduce many aspects of every-day life and normality she hadn't been able to enjoy up until that point.

The philosophical shift from symptom management to addressing dysfunctional physiology at a core level was paradigm-shifting in how he viewed working with his clients and patients. He has devoted much of his time over the last 5 years sharpening his craft with two of his mentors, Dr. Brandon Brock and Dr. Robert Melillo pursuing a mature understanding of the brain and interwoven organ systems to help patients with complex issues. Consistent and quality clinical outcomes are paramount, and he enjoys working with patients suffering from numerous conditions including neurodevelopmental disorders, movement disorders, traumatic brain injuries, neurovascular and neurometabolic diseases, vestibular disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and orthopedic injuries. He also has a huge passion for exercise and sports performance. His unique combination of sports, coaching, educational background, and clinical experience has allowed him to work with a variety of national and international patients including combat-injured veterans, Navy Seals, Olympic gold medalists, world record holders, professional and collegiate athletes of all sports including MMA, geriatric and weight loss clients and youth athletes.
